Technical Service Bulletin 22-TSB-432-EN 08/24/2022
Models and Markets: All STATIM G4 2000 and 5000 units worldwide.
Description: How to check the pressure relief valve on the steam generator.
Summary: Some jurisdictions may require that technicians check the steam generator’s pressure relief valve as part of an annual service. This bulletin describes the two PRV types and how to check them.
Action Required: Technicians are advised to follow the annual service requirements. If a PRV check is required by the local regulatory authority, follow the instructions in this bulletin.
PRV types and how to check them
There are two types of pressure relief valves fitted to STATIM units:
Type 1: 70 PSI PRV without pull ring
CAUTION: Perform this check when the steam generator is cool.
Checking the PRV spring on Type 1
1. Using a flat plastic card (the thickness of a credit card), press into the seam between the brass cap and the valve body and pull up on the cap.
IMPORANT! Don’t use a metal screwdriver. This could damage the PRV.
2. The cap should spring back into position.
3. Run a cycle with the cover off so that you can observe the steam generator and make sure the PRV is not leaking steam during the sterilization phase of the cycle.
Type 2: 43.5 PSI PRV with pull ring
CAUTION: Perform this check when the steam generator is cool.
Checking the PRV spring on Type 2
1. Pull up on the brass ring.
2. The cap should spring back into position.
3. Run a cycle with the cover off so that you can observe the steam generator and make sure the PRV is not leaking steam during the sterilization phase of the cycle.
