OPTIM™33 TB Quick Reference Guide

SWITCHING TO OPTIM 33 TB

Give all surfaces a rinse with mild soap & water before switching to OPTIM.

SciCan_OPTIM_USAQUATs (Quaternary Ammonium Compounds) or phenol based disinfectants are common active ingredients in the dental operatory today and are known to leave residual active chemistry on surfaces. AHP (Accelerated Hydrogen Peroxide) is an oxidizer and will remove chemical residues left by other surface disinfectants. There may be odor or film development if surfaces are not rinsed (damp wiped) properly with soap & water. This odor or film should however dissipate on average within 7 to 10 days of continual use as AHP will remove the residual active ingredient.

Surfaces need to be periodically rinsed with water!

Dissents or complaints happen when users are not informed on the correct protocol when using the product. It is good practice to periodically (at least once a week) rinse or wipe surfaces with a damp cloth to remove surfactants (detergents) or residual active ingredients that can build up over time with the use of ANY disinfectant cleaner.

No mixing of chemistries!

Mixing of chemistries in operatory i.e. using quats-alcohol/phenol disinfectant and OPTIM 33 TB in the same operatory or refilling OPTIM into chemical container used previously for other chemicals is not recommended. It is best practice to never mix chemistries (any kind) no matter what industry you are in.

On which surfaces can OPTIM 33 TB be used?

Non-porous hand contact environmental surfaces including Naugahyde (vinyl coated upholstery fabric).

NOTE: Soft surfaces such as chairs and cables should be periodically rinsed with water or wiped with a damp cloth to prevent the build-up of disinfectant or surfactants. As best practice, for any kind of disinfectant or cleaners used, chairs should be wiped with a damp cloth at the end of the day or at least once a week.

PRECAUTIONS:

– Surfaces that are composed of brass or copper, or other ferrous metals may show signs of discoloration or pitting with prolonged exposure.

– Anodized aluminum (often used on hand-pieces) and carbon tipped instruments should be avoided (i.e. burrs). Material impact can be reduced with rinsing or damp wiping.

We advise against wrapping gauze pad or ‘sleeves’ soaked in disinfectant on hand-pieces.

OPTIM 33 TB Solution

OPTIM 33TBSpray – Wipe – Spray Protocol

Visibly Soiled Surface – Clean before disinfecting

  1. Spray OPTIM 33 TB directly onto surface.
  2. Wipe visible soil with Stat-Wipes or clean paper towel to clean surface.
  3. Discard soiled towelette.
  4. Continue to disinfection step

Visibly Clean Surface – Disinfect pre-clean surface

  1. Spray OPTIM 33TB to cover the pre-clean surface. Allow the disinfectant to remain
  2. undisturbed on the surface for the contact time indicated on the label.
  3. *Do not overspray as this can create pooling of liquid. OPTIM 33TB is water based not alcohol based.
  4. Wipe with Stat-Wipes or clean paper towel.
  5. Discard used towelette.

*Using gauze dipped in solutions for wiping can cause pooling of liquid on surface. Wipe surface dry with paper towel if surface is still wet after desired contact time is achieved.

** OPTIM 33 TB has been tested in accordance with EPA organic soil load requirement as a One- Step Cleaner Disinfectant. Therefore, OPTIM can be used on visibly clean surface. Depending on the soil load on the surface, the 2 step process is not required due to this EPA claim.

OPTIM 33 TB Wipes

Standard Protocol for Visibly Soiled Surface

Clean before disinfecting

  1. Pull out OPTIM 33 TB towelette from the canister.
  2. Clean surface with towelette to remove organic matter or visible blood.
  3. Discard used towellete.

Disinfect After Cleaning

  1. Pull out OPTIM 33 TB towelette from the canister.
  2. Disinfect surface with towelette.
  3. Allow surface to remain wet for the recommended contact time.
  4. Discard used towelette.

** OPTIM 33 TB has been tested in accordance with EPA organic soil load requirement as a One-Step Cleaner Disinfectant. Depending on the soil load on the surface, users have the choice of cleaning the surface with one side of the wipe and disinfecting the surface with the reverse side of the wipes. Always allow surface to remain wet for the recommended contact time.

Because OPTIM 33 TB is approved as a One-Step Cleaner Disinfectant, depending on the soil load, the 2 step process may not be required due to this EPA claim.

Enhance drying in your STATIM® Cassettes with the STAT-DRI PLUS drying agents.

Dry

Treatment of the STATIM Cassette with the STAT-DRI PLUS drying agent will enhance the drying process. Coating the inside surface with STAT-DRI PLUS drying agent induces water to form an even coat on the inside surface, without beading. When the water comes in contact with the hot cassette surfaces, it will evaporate much more efficiently. Spotting is minimized and instruments dry much better.

Uses

  • Use Stat-Dri Plus to protect the interior of your STATIM cassette and to shorten your drying time.
  • Use Stat-Dri Plus as a rinse aid in your HYDRIM instrument washer for spotless instruments and faster drying.

For faster drying and seal lubrication coat the STATIM Cassette:

After cleaning and drying the cassette, treat the interior surfaces with STAT-DRI Plus.

Add to the rinse aid dispenser on your HYDRIM instrument washer for effective drying results. [MSDS]

Stat-Dri Use Protocol

3.9 Preparing Unit for Use

Once the unit is installed and before any instruments are sterilized, run two Wrapped Cycles (see Section 4.8 Statim 2000 - Running a Cycle and 4.10 Statim 5000 - Running a Cycle). Remove the cassette once it has cooled. Clean the top (lid) and bottom (tray) sections using a soft cloth to wipe the inside surfaces and then rinse thoroughly with tap water. Once the cassette is clean and dry, coat the inside surfaces with STAT-DRI.

STAT-DRI

Treatment of the interior surfaces of the cassette with the STAT-DRI drying agent, provided with your unit, will enhance the drying process. (Replacement bottles are available from SciCan, order number 2OZPLUS, 8OZPLUST, 32OZPLUS).

4.3 Statim 5000 — STAT-DRI Plates

The Statim 5000 cassette uses STAT-DRI plates to enhance the drying process for wrapped instruments. The adjustable plates are designed for the unwrapped instruments rack and eliminate the need for a separate wrapped instrument rack. Up to ten plates can be arranged along the length of the rack. Each unit is shipped with five STAT-DRI plates. Additional plates may be ordered from SciCan (SciCan part number 01-103935).

To install and adjust a STAT-DRI plate, follow these steps:
  1. Hold a plate over the desired position, tilted slightly forward with the tabs down.
  2. Insert the tabs between the mesh of the unwrapped instrument rack.
  3. Each tab has an elongated slot. Slide the plate until the wire is at the end of each slot.
  4. Release the plate to the resting position.
  5. Prepare and load instruments for sterilization.

5.1 Cleaning the Cassette

Keeping the Statim cassette clean is good clinical practice and assists in the function of the unit. SciCan recommends that the interior surface be cleaned at least once a week. Use dishwashing soap or a mild detergent that does not contain chlorine. Scrub the inside of the cassette with a cleaning pad designed for use with Teflon™ coated surfaces. After scouring, rinse thoroughly with water to remove all traces of the detergent. Cleaning the inside of your cassette is very important if you regularly sterilize lubricated instruments. Coating the entire inside surface with STAT-DRI / STAT-DRI PLUS drying agent induces water to form an even coat on the inside surface, without beading. The water in contact with the hot cassette surfaces also evaporates much more efficiently. Spotting is minimized and instruments dry much better. STAT-DRI / STAT-DRI PLUS should be applied every 10 cycles, and after every cassette cleaning.

Stat-Dri vs. Jet-Dry

Stat-Dri Plus is specially formulated to protect stainless steel instruments. All microbiological sterilization efficacy testing has been done using Stat-Dri. We have not conducted such tests using Jet-Dry, and therefore cannot provide any data to support using any Jet-Dry products as an alternative.

Keep in mind there are several flavours of Jet-Dry on the market, including Jet-Dry with baking soda, Jet-Dry Turbo-Dry, etc. all of which have slightly different chemical composition. As a result, customers who choose to use Jet-Dry instead of Stat-Dri do so at their 'own risk'.
