The first time I travelled to Asia, I visited Thailand in 2000 to see the Vegetarian Festival. When I returned in 2001, I documented the event with photo and video, and I got my second sai sin (red thread) for my own personal good-luck charm, as it seemed to work well for me.

The people of the festival were very cooperative and welcoming. I was surprised because people acted in ways I didn’t expect in comparison to all of what I read prior to the event.

I went to a liké, one of the Chinese operas held in the temples for the purpose of entertaining the gods visiting the island during the festival. There I met an informant medium named Ton who helped me understand more of the happenings.
